| Blasting Unit Operation
|
 |
| The proposed blasting plant is
engineered for automatic blasting of sectional steel plates, profiles,
composed, pipes, etc. The blasting operation is performed in the central part
of the tunnel, where the pieces are subjected to the impact of abrasive, thrown
at high speed by the throwing wheels. In order to achieve an optimal blasting
performance the throwing wheels are suitably located and carefully chosen. The
pieces are arranged one - by-one or, in case of small sections, in parallel
rows on the roller conveyor. A roller conveyor (non included in our supply),
transports the pieces continuously through the blasting tunnel and before the
pieces leave the tunnel, the blow-off group will remove the remnant abrasive on
their upper surface. The translation speed can be continuously adjusted, in
order to reach the best finishing wished. The abrasive distribution to the
throwing wheels will be stopped automatically by a special detector of piece
presence at the inlet of the tunnel. |
 |
| Abrasive Cycle |
 |
| Abrasive cycle is completely closed,
while abrasive recovery and discharge of waste are fully automatic. The
abrasive medium is stored in a tank located at the top of the unit and combined
with the abrasive separator. Abrasive is automatically fed to the Throwing
wheels. The thrown abrasive is collected in the abrasive recovery hopper,
conveyed to the base of the bucket elevator and transported to the abrasive
separator, where oversize contaminants and worn-out abrasive are trapped. The
usable blasting medium is finally returned to the storage tank for reuse.

Blasting chamber & wear resistant
lining The blasting chamber is a welded, sturdy structure manufactured
by Mn steel. In the zone of direct abrasive impact of throwing wheels, there
are additional liner plates, easily replaceable. All internal cross sectional
walls are fabricated by Mn steel.
Abrasive collecting hopper The bottom section of blasting chamber is
hopper shaped, to allow collection and transportation of abrasive.
Tunnel inlet and outlet vestibules Inlet and outlet vestibules are
fabricated by Mn steel plates. To avoid emission of dust to the environment,
multiple rubber seals are provided on the inlet and outlet of the blasting
tunnel.

| Throwing wheel, DIRECT drive type
|
 |
It is composed of a wheel disk
dynamically balanced, where to apply the blades in wear-proof cast iron
“Chrom-Hard V” for the centrifugal jet of the abrasive. The wheel is protected
by “Chrom-Hard V” cast iron liner plates, which are protected by high thickness
steel sheet. The throwing wheel unit has the wheel DIRECTLY assembled on the
motor shaft, without using specific support or belt transmission. Motor with
standard dimensions, but specifically reinforced for its use.The maintenance of
throwing wheel can be easily carried out by simply replacing normal wearing
parts (blades and liner plates).
Furthermore it has been given a special care to such new conception, in order
to reach better performances than the traditional ones. With same absorbed
power, the thrown media will result 10% higher. |
 |
| Abrasive feeding control unit
|
 |
A specially designed sluice electro
pneumatically type valve with strong cast body is provided for each throwing
wheel to enable remote abrasive feeding control and shut/opening operation. By
those valves it is possible to adjust the quantity of thrown abrasive of each
throwing wheel. The abrasive feeding is stopped in case of loss of electric
power. The abrasive flow rate is manually adjusted. Type without openings
towards the outside, with low sound emissions and a perfect abrasive-tight.
It is also complete with a further manual gate valve, assembled over the
electro pneumatic one, in order to stop the abrasive in case of maintenance.
|
 |
| Scroll conveyor
|
 |
| At the very bottom level of the abrasive
collecting hopper, scroll conveyors are installed to transport the collected
spent abrasive and other particles (blasting by-products) to the bucket
elevator unit. The shaft is supported by ball bearings, protected with rubber
seals. Driving by external motoreducer group directly assembled on the shaft or
connected to it by chain transmission.
|
 |
| Bucket elevator unit
|
 |
| The vertical transport of abrasive and
waste from the abrasive collecting hopper to the abrasive reclamation unit is
performed by the bucket elevator unit.
|
 |
It consists of:
• Steel casing with inspection door.
• Top and bottom pulley groups with dust-proof ball bearing supports.
• Closed cycle rubber belt reinforced with two polyester-nylon plies, with
buckets bolted on it.
• Belt tensioning device.
• Asynchronous geared motor driving the bucket elevator top pulley.
• Non-return mechanism on the driving pulley.
• Electronic control on the driven pulley.
|
 |
| Abrasive reclamation unit and silo
|
 |
| The abrasive reclamation unit and silo
is a carefully designed and manufactured steel structure, placed on the top of
bucket elevator and over the blasting tunnel, which separates clean and usable
abrasive in cycle from worn abrasive and other waste blasting products. This
unit is designed as a cascade wind sifter and abrasive air washing is performed
by suction effect of dust collector exhaust fan. The clean grit is stocked into
a silo, inside the separator itself, for its re-use.
|
 |
| Inside roller conveyor unit
|
 |
| A special roller conveyor is provided
for the continuous transportation of blasted work pieces through the blasting
tunnel. It is driven by motovariator group with reducer and chain transmission.
The rollers outside the blasting tunnel are made in steel material, whilst the
ones inside the blasting zone, are protected by abrasion-resistant replaceable
material. The roller rotation speed is adjustable by frequency converter, in
order to control the feeding way of the pieces.
|
 |
| Automatic blowing unit
|
 |
| Area of abrasive blowing from the
blasted pieces, placed at the outlet and composed of two high pressure
ventilators.
|
 |
| Painting |
 |
| One coat of primer rust-proof and final
coat of synthetic enamel, complying with current regulations. Colors as per
Carlo Banfi Spa (Machine: GREY RAL 7037, mobile parts: RED RAL 3000) or others
to be agreed upon. |
 |
| Electrical control & centralized
system
|
 |

Features of
the compressed air for cartridge blow-off
Operating pressure: Bar 3÷5 Consumption: Nm3/h 36 Dew temperature: 5°C lower
than the room temperature Oil content: 5 p.p.m. max. (By taking into account
air at 20°C - 1.29 kg/m3)
DUST CONCENTRATION OUT OF THE CHIMNEY: Lower than 5 mg/m3
(Chimney: Out of our scope of supply)
System operation
The "PS" series of dust collectors clean the dust laden air exhausted from the
shot blasting installations. It is a dust collector using “cartridges”, which
are blown off by compressed air at regular intervals, so as to detach the dust
which deposits on the cartridge outer surface. The compressed air is stored in
a tank and it is conveyed to the filtering cartridges by a cycle timer
controlled by an electro valve. The air suitably directed to the cartridges,
creates a pressure wave inside, washing and resetting their former permeability
capacity. The cartridges are blown off one after the other for some split
seconds each. The interval between the blow-off cycles can be set according to
the installation operating
Conditions. No moving parts are involved in this cleaning system and therefore
its high reliability and safety is to be remarked. Furthermore, being the
ventilator installed after the filtering elements, it is a guarantee of a long
life of the same.
